Becoming

A One-Year Experiment in Living on Purpose

Becoming is a one-year experiment in intentional living, running from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. It isn't a self-help program, a coaching system, or a formula. It's one ordinary person, me, trying to live with more awareness, honesty, and purpose, one day at a time, and paying close attention to what that actually does to a real life.

"Becoming"

 I Thought "A-Ha!"

Becoming grew out of the year I wrote about in 50 Things at 50. That year showed me what could happen when I stopped living on autopilot and started making choices on purpose.

When the year ended, a new question wouldn’t leave me alone: "If one intentional year could change my life this much, what would happen if I chose to live that way every day?"

"Becoming" is my attempt to intentionally be "AWARE" of whom I am "Becoming"

A Different Way of Paying Attention

Becoming, as I practice it, is not about fixing yourself or arriving at some finished version of your life. It’s about learning to notice what your days are actually made of, your habits, your reactions, your small choices, and then gently experimenting with living a little more honestly, a little more awake, in the middle of all of that.

Why We Keep Accepting the Same Painful Relationship Patterns

When my girlfriend left for the second time in a year, I lost the place we had been living and went to stay with a friend. He gave me a room and bought me flip-flops because I had left with almost nothing. His kindness challenged a belief I had carried since childhood: that people wouldn’t stay for me.

The article follows the shift from asking why someone else kept leaving to asking why I kept opening the door. It’s about recognizing how old beliefs shape the patterns we accept, then choosing what we can do differently.

The Parts of the Experiment

Right now, Becoming has four connected parts:

• Moments of Becoming: the full stories I publish throughout the month. Each one begins with a real question, draws from a specific moment in my life, and connects to one of the five core themes.

• Monthly Field Notes: a monthly retrospective within Moments of Becoming, drawn from the private daily journal and focused on what the previous month revealed.

• The Becoming Field Manual: the free guide and evolving set of principles I am using as I practice intentional living.

• The Becoming Letter: the once monthly email that gathers new stories, adds news from the month, and links readers back to the complete articles.

None of these are instructions. They are a record of what I am trying, what seems to help, and what I am still learning.

I want to be honest about what this isn’t. It isn’t a course, a coaching offer, or a guaranteed path to a better life.
I’m not standing on a stage telling you how to live. I’m living these questions too, and sharing honestly what I’m learning as I go.
